We moved from Scotland to Italy to enjoy the food, the wine and the respect for ‘the slow’. There is always time to talk, to connect with others over a good meal and yes, it's true, that Italians talk about the next meal while enjoying this one!
Lucca Bread Kitchen came about as a way for both of us to share our passion and experience of bread baking.
The classes are run in a home kitchen. All our utensils, equipment and our oven will be similar to those found in your own home. We hope to show you that you don't need a kitchen full of fancy gadgets to bake good bread; just sound knowledge, a thoughtful attitude and good quality ingredients.

I come from a long line of Irish women who love to cook and most importantly, who love to feed people. My mother and both my grandmothers made bread every day and the memory of the smell and taste of it, hot from the oven is as comforting as it is vivid. I want to share the excitement I still get when I watch that loaf spring in the oven and emerge crusty and delicious. I taught yoga in Edinburgh, Scotland for over 20 years and I hope to teach you how a sense of grounding and calm can enhance your baking and how much that can give you in return.

My baking experience started over thirty years ago, working for food writer Joanna Blythman at her french style delicatessen in Edinburgh. I went on to build on my bread making knowledge living on the east coast of Scotland, where I set up a community bakery. I led this social enterprise for over four years, during which time I provided teaching sessions for local people and St. Andrews University.
We promoted the bakery with a custom-made pizza truck, travelling around Scotland to festivals & the local farmers' markets.
